Review: Chews Your Destiny Gum Girl! by Rhode Montijo

SUMMARY FROM NETGALLEY.COM:
Gabby Gomez loves to chew bubble gum even though her mother has warned her against it.  It's not like she will turn into gum...except, that's exactly what happens! With her new, stretch-tastic powers Gabby can help save the day, but she will have to keep her gummy alter-ego a secret from her mother or else she'll find herself in a really sticky situation.
MY TAKE:
I'm not sure why, but I didn't enjoy this book as much as I thought I would.

In Chews Your Destiny, Gabby is addicted to chewing gum. Her mother told her not to chew gum anymore, but she just couldn't help herself and before she knew it, she became gum girl, a girl imbued with the properties of bubble gum.

The story itself was interesting and something that a number of kids could probably relate to. After all, lots of kids like chewing gum and eating candy, and they like superheroes, so the possibility of being a superhero by eating candy sounds like a pretty good deal.

The illustrations help break up the monotony of paragraphs and help move the story along. Gabby is a cute kid too, and the drawings will help kids and adults imagine her more easily.

However, even though I sort of enjoyed the story while reading it, I didn't really feel or think anything in particular when I reflected on the book. It was just okay for me. I think, though, that little girls might like this one a lot, since Gabby is very much a typical little girl.
